Middle Quinton - A new Eco-town Community

Objectives

Global Objectives

WaterWater
Improved water use through water efficiency mechanisms and / or source substitution such as rainwater and stormwater harvesting.

EnergyEnergy
Reduced production of greenhouse gases and use of fossil fuels. This is achieved through efficiencies in energy usage; on site generation of energy through the use of renewable and non-polluting energy sources; and a reduction in energy demand through good design.

WasteWaste
Comprehensive waste management procedures and practices to reduce the amount of waste to landfill and reuse on site where possible. To be the first UK Town to be powered by recycled materials.

MaterialsMaterials
Environmentally responsible material usage including reuse of materials and consideration of the life cycle environmental costs of materials.

LandscapeLandscape
Protected and enhanced health & sustainability of natural systems and the encouragement of native bio-diversity and rehabilitation of degraded sites. The creation of significant new public open space.

EducationEducation
Promote lifelong learning for the existing and new community through the Eco-town, new visitor attraction and the creation of new schools and a college.

CommunityCommunity
Create a zero carbon community that is vibrant, socially inclusive, sustainable, with good community design providing a range of community facilities & networks; safe, accessible housing & tourist / leisure attractions for the region.

Local Objectives

TransportTransport
Linking Middle Quinton with Stratford-upon-Avon, The Cotswolds, Evesham, Oxford and London. Reuse the link between North Cotswold line, Chiltern line and West Coast main line. Create an integrated transport scheme utilising rail and bus consistent with the needs of the future residents. Enhanced road, pedestrian and cycle links to key centres and nodes reduces reliance on motor vehicles both within and beyond the site.

EmploymentEmployment
Creation of 6,000 new homes in a planned and phased development. The development would provide substantial employment incorporating a mix of live work units and strategic employers benefiting from the excellent rail links. This would create jobs to support the new Eco-town, through a mix of existing employment on site and the creation of new jobs.

ExpansionExpansion
Relieve pressure on Stratford-upon-Avon, and its infrastructure (including education, transport and flooding) as a historic town.

GrowthGrowth
Provide long term strategic growth in the West Midlands area.

LeisureLeisure
Create a tourist / leisure attraction to add to the existing offer within Stratford-upon-Avon and build upon A World Class Stratford-upon-Avon.
